Dentures are removable appliances to replace one or more missing teeth, or all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. Dentures that replace just one or more teeth are called partial dentures, while dentures replacing all your teeth are called full or complete dentures. Denture teeth are usually made from plastic or porcelain and are attached to a pink gum coloured acrylic base.

What Is The Difference Between Partial And Full Dentures?

Partial dentures can be held in place with special attachments or clasps that will fit around or onto existing teeth. They will often have a lightweight cobalt chrome alloy base which enables us to construct a thinner, stronger and more comfortable appliance for you to wear. Full dentures normally just have an acrylic base that will rest on the gums or be supported with dental implants providing a stable yet still fully removable set of teeth.

How Do I Look After Dentures?

You do need to keep your dentures thoroughly clean, either by using a proprietary denture cleaner and a denture brush, or gentle washing up liquid. Do not use toothpaste or an ordinary toothbrush as these are too harsh and will damage the denture. If you break your denture, contact us so we can mend it professionally. Please do not try to mend it yourself as you could cause further damage. We will make sure it is repaired as quickly as possible to eliminate any inconvenience.

Can I Sleep In Dentures?

Your gums need to rest as much as you do so we strongly advise against sleeping in dentures. If removing your teeth at night is a problem you would rather not have to deal with, please ask us about dental implants.

Why Should I Consider Dentures?

The procedure to make and fit dentures is non-invasive and good for anyone who does not wish to undergo a lot of dental treatment. They offer an affordable yet high quality way to replace teeth so you will be able to speak and eat comfortably.

What Are Flexible Dentures?

Some types of partial dentures are called flexible dentures as they are made from a special type of nylon that flexes to fit comfortably on your gums. These dentures have clasps made from the same nearly transparent gum coloured nylon and do not contain any metal. Nylon or flexible dentures can be especially suitable for anyone with allergies to conventional acrylic dentures.

Will My Denture Look Natural?

Today’s modern dentures are quite different compared to those made even a few years ago, and we will ensure they fit properly and are comfortable to wear. 1300SMILES uses high quality materials that include the very latest denture teeth. These teeth are available in an enormous range of shapes, sizes and shades so our dentists can closely match them to your existing teeth. If you require a complete denture then you can choose teeth that perhaps look even better than your natural teeth.

We take a lot of care when designing dentures, and will ensure that the teeth are arranged naturally, and the gum coloured base blends in with your real gums. Each denture is made to restore both appearance and function, and will fully support your cheeks and lips. If you lost all your natural teeth quite some time ago then you might be amazed at how much better you could look with your new denture, as we will make sure it eliminates that sunken-in look that can be so prematurely aging.
